Spring Skincare Tips

Spring has sprung! With all of the growth and warmth of the season, we must remember to update our skin care routine too.  At By Justine we know that warm weather means more for your skin than the occasional sunburn. Here are some tips on what to do to keep your skin glowing this season.

1) Spring Clean.

It’s time to clean out your skincare closet. Whether it says so on the bottle or not, every skin care product has a shelf-life. Our skin is our largest organ, so you want to make sure to always use  the freshest ingredients--and when possible, opt for organic or natural ingredients. You might be wondering, when should I toss a product? A good general rule is to toss out anything over a year old. For true natural and organic products, that shelf-life can be less than 12 months depending on what ingredients are used. At By Justine, all of our products use organic and natural ingredients. We also post an estimated shelf life of 12 months or less on each product. The By Justine BLOOM Collection is full of great products like body and lip scrubs, cremes, and lip balms...all in fresh springtime floral and citrus scents. With natural ingredients like rosehip, shea butter, green tea, citrus, lavender, and spearmint, these products will prep your skin for warm weather.

Recommendations:

  • Always check the shelf-life on your products

  • Toss products that are over a year old

  • When selecting new products, choose products with natural and organic ingredients

2) Exfoliate!

The cold and dry winter air is hard on skin. As you begin to shed the coats and winter clothes, it’s also time to leave dead or dry winter skin behind. Take time this season to exfoliate regularly to remove dead skin cells--- leaving your skin renewed, soft, glowing and ready for shorts and short sleeves. Salt or sugar based scrubs are great for exfoliating and By Justine makes both. Sugar scrubs provide a gentle exfoliation and can be used safely on your face, sensitive skin, and irritated skin.  Salt provides a deep exfoliation and is best suited for use on the body, especially on tougher skin areas like feet. You can learn more about the differences between sugar and salt scrubs in this blog post.

Recommendations:

  • Exfoliate regularly (2-3 time per week) with a salt or sugar based scrub

3) Moisturize!

Congrats! You made it through another harsh winter. One where you undoubtedly covered up in pants and long sleeves. But now it’s time to prepare your body for warm weather highlighted by shorts and short sleeves. Not only can the sun be harsh on skin, but in warmer and dryer months, your skin will tend to thirst for moisture and hydration. In this season, remember to give those areas that tend to be dry some extra love. Make sure to treat your legs and arms to some moisturizing lotions or cremes.  Focus on areas that typically dry out in the winter like your feet, elbows, and knees. The By Justine BLOOM Collection has two body cremes in the spring scents of Citrus Bloom and Lush Lemongrass. These cremes are made with a variety of shea butter and organic oils that nourish and hydrate dry skin.

4) Protect your Lips!

Lips don’t lie. Between eating, talking, and kissing, our lips are easily one of the most central focal points on the body. Our lips also have some of the most sensitive skin on our body and tends to be super sensitive to temperature. So in warm weather it’s important that we take special care of them by: exfoliating, hydrating, and using SPF if you spend a lot of time in the sun.  The By Justine BLOOM Collection has two lip scrubs and lip balms that pair great together. Use our lip scrubs and lip balms to exfoliate and then hydrate your lips.
